Chestnut (lat. Aésculus hippocástanum) is the most common in Russia and is popularly known as "Horse chestnut". Unlike its relatives, this species belongs to the family of Horsecastanaceae (Hippocastanaceae).

The chestnut tree reaches 36 m and has a large spreading crown. The tree has a well-developed root system, which makes it resistant to winds. The tree can grow in nitrogen-free soils because its roots can absorb nitrogen from the air. The tree's flowers grow in a cone and change color from white to red. From each inflorescence comes from 1 to 5 fruits, which are fully ripe by September. This species is propagated by seeds. It feels great in a temperate climate. Chestnut is a long-lived tree and is almost immune to insects. Frost resistant and belongs to the 3 zone of frost resistance.

Horse fruits are not eaten because they have a bitter taste. Therefore, the tree is used only for decorative purposes. But the flowers of the tree give quite delicious honey.

The tree has a soft wood, so it is not used for commercial purposes. But all its components are used in pharmacology or in folk medicine.
