Shrub 1-2 (up to 6) m high. Branches numerous, upward directed, initially pubescent, later glabrous. The bark is brown or dark gray, covered with short, pressed, white hairs (except for old branches). Leaves are non-pinnate, 9-17 (up to 30) cm long, with 5-12 pairs of oblong-oval or oblong-elliptic leaflets. Leaves from narrow and wide-elliptic to ovate and back-ovate, 2-4 cm long, 0.5-1.8 cm wide, with dark, dotted glands, rounded or short-pointed at the top, with a short spike, wide or narrow-wedge-shaped at the base, bright green above, lighter below, almost glabrous, ciliated along the edge, on petioles 1.5-2 mm long. Stipules are sharp, up to 7 mm long, 0.5 mm wide. The flowers are small, almost sessile in dense apical, converging racemes 9-14 cm long, with axillary shortened peduncles. Bracts are small, 0.5-1 mm long, scaly. Calyx bell-shaped, purple in the upper part, 2.5—3 mm long, 2 mm wide, with four blunt teeth and 1 lower, sharp. The flag is naked, reddish-purple, dark, 4-6 mm long, 4 mm wide, with a 1 mm long nail. The staminate filaments are elongated, with yellow anthers protruding above the flag. Beans are about 8-9 mm long, 2 mm wide, arched on the back, glabrous, single-seeded, with a curved long tip. Seeds are elongated-kidney-shaped, shiny, smooth, brown, bent at the top, 3-4 mm long, 1.5 mm wide. Blooms in may and June. Flowering lasts for 25 days. It bears fruit in September.
