Small-leaved Chinese boxwood Sinica (Buxus microphylla var. sinica).

A shrub or small tree up to 1.6 m tall. Shoots and leaves are more or less pubescent. The leaves are 1.5-3 cm long, obovate or oblong, with a pointed or narrowed blunt, often notched tip, usually with the edges bent down, leathery, pale yellowish-green, shiny on top. The inflorescences are axillary.

Boxwoods are very unpretentious plants: they grow on rocky scree, on the edges of forests, in shrubby thickets and dark deciduous forests. Very shade-tolerant, but also thermophilic. In nature, they live on slightly acidic soils.
