Papaya Honey Dew, Papaw, Pawpaw, Coorg honeydew, Melon tree (lat. Carica papaya)
A short slender palm-shaped tree with a thin, branchless trunk 3-10 m high. The leaves are large, 50-70 cm in diameter, palmately dissected, on long petioles.
The flowers develop in the axils of the leaves, turning into large fruits, with a diameter of 10-30 cm and a length of 15-45 cm. Ripe fruits are soft and have a color from amber to orange. The flesh of ripe fruits can be yellow, orange and red.
It feels great in slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6-6.5, well fertilized with humus.
