A species of the genus Honeysuckle (Lonicera) of the Honeysuckle family (Caprifoliaceae). Deciduous spreading strongly branching shrub up to 2 meters high. The bark of old shoots is light gray, young ones are green or purple, without pubescence.

The leaves are elliptical or oblong-ovate, 3-7 cm long, dark green, on short petioles, with ciliated pubescence at the edges.

The flowers are purple-red, up to 13 mm long, arranged in pairs in the axils of the leaves, and they are very interesting - each pair is hidden under its own leaf. Flowering time is June.

The fruits are ovoid, bright red, shiny, fused in pairs with bases and diverging at the top like horns, ripen in late August-September.

The fruits are inedible, pecked by birds. Decorative, suitable for hedges, curtains, undergrowth.

The flowers are well visited by bees taking nectar and pollen.
