Canadian serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis).

Deciduous shrub or small tree 2-4.5 m tall.

The leaves are simple, ovate or oblong-ovate, 1-5.5 cm long and 1.8-2.8 cm wide, with a rounded or tapered base, fleecy below, with a serrated edge. Leaf petioles are 8-15 mm long.

Flowers collected in racemose inflorescences appear in early spring, each inflorescence contains 4-10 flowers. Petals are 5 in number, 7.6-11 mm long and 2-4 mm wide, white. Stamens 20.

The fruit is a berry 7-10 mm in diameter, when ripe it becomes dark purple.

Choose a well-lit place for planting. Any soil is suitable for it, even heavy clay and slightly moist. Swampy areas should be avoided.
