A plant of the genus Honeysuckle of the Honeysuckle family. Deciduous shrub up to 2 meters high. The leaves are obovate, dense, dark green, shiny, up to 10 cm long, on 1.5-centimeter petioles.
The flowers are odorless, light yellow with a reddish tinge, up to 1.5 cm long, on long (2-4.5 cm) peduncles. Alpine honeysuckle blooms in May-June.
The fruits are fused in pairs, scarlet in color, shiny, on long legs, resemble a cherry in appearance. Inedible. Ripen in August-September.
Alpine honeysuckle grows slowly — at the age of 15, the height of the bush reaches only 0.7 meters. Hardy and shade-tolerant, tolerates haircut well. Prefers light sandy loam soils. It is grown as an ornamental plant.
