The shrub, sometimes reaching a height of 3 meters, is quite winter-hardy. One of the fastest growing types of rowan. Interesting with wide simple leaves, pink flowers and large orange-red fruits up to 2 cm in diameter. Blooms from mid-June to late July.
Very decorative miniature trees are obtained by grafting squat rowan into the standard rowan tree. It is valuable in ornamental gardening and as a fruit plant.
It is undemanding to soils, but prefers medium loamy soils with slightly acidic and neutral reaction conditions.
