A plant species of the genus Plum (section Apricot). Deciduous tree with a height of 10-15 m, with a trunk diameter of up to 45 cm, with a spreading openwork crown. Gives abundant growth.

The bark is dark gray, roughened, soft, cracked, resembling the bark of velvet. The root system is powerful, with deep taproot and long lateral roots.

The leaves are 5-12 cm long, from lanceolate-oval to ovate or broadly oval, much larger on growth shoots than on fruiting ones, glabrous, long-pointed, roughly bicopilate along the edge.

The flowers are initially light pink, then pale, about 2.5 cm in diameter, on a peduncle up to 1 cm long, collected in bundles. Blooms before the leaves bloom, in May. The fruits ripen in July - August. The duration of flowering is 10-11 days.

The fruits are round-oval, slightly compressed from the sides, about 2.5 cm long, yellow or orange-sided, velvety, milky or dryish, with fibrous sweet-sour or bitter flesh. The fruits are suitable for processing into jam, jam, pastille, etc.

Light-loving, undemanding to the soil, winter-hardy, drought-resistant. It is easily propagated by seeds. Seeds require stratification lasting 50-70 days. Germination is about 90%, part of it sprouts next year. The plant is used to create hedges.
