Cherry Prinsepia, Chinese Prinsepia (lat. Prinsepia sinensis)
A shrub of 1.5-2.5 m in height, with long twig-shaped branches, on which there are straight lines directed obliquely upwards, less often-hook-shaped curved spines of 0.6-2 cm in length. In the shade, individual branches, supported by neighboring trees, stretch up to 5-6 m. The bark is light gray or brownish, peeling off in longitudinal stripes, on young shoots — dark, smooth, covered with a slightly flaky glossy skin. The leaves are lanceolate or oblong-ovate, 5-8 cm long and 1.5—3 cm wide, whole-edged or slightly bordered, alternate on young shoots, and on old branches — in bundles, glabrous, matte-green above, lighter and more glossy below. The flowers are yellow, about 15 cm in diameter, with a subtle aroma, 2-4 in axillary bundles. The fruits are spherical or ovoid bright red drupes 1.5-2 cm in diameter, with a sour-sweet pulp, edible. The bone is flat, 1-1. 2 cm long, with a characteristic furrowed-bumpy surface. It blooms in May, the fruits ripen at the end of August.
