A species of the genus Hawthorn (Crataegus) of the Pink family (Rosaceae). A shrub 2-3 m high, less often up to 5 m, sometimes grows a tree up to 7 m high and a trunk diameter of 18 cm. The branches are dark brown, with gray spots; the shoots are bare. There are no spines, or there are axillary and artificial spines 0.5-2.5 cm long.

The leaves are broadly ovate, dull, rich green above, slightly lighter below, diffusely pubescent, later glabrous. The inflorescences are almost equal in length to the leaves.

The fruits are short-ellipsoidal, 10-13 mm in diameter, dark purple, quite mature - black and purple with light dots and yellow flesh. There are usually 2 bones.

Flowering in May. Fruiting in October. It grows on the rocky slopes of mountains and gorges among shrubs, single bushes.
