Lily of the valley May (Latin Convallaria majalis).

A species of herbaceous flowering plants common in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Herbaceous perennial plant 15-30 cm tall. The underground rhizome is horizontal creeping, no thicker than a goose feather, bears several pale small lower leaves near the top, half-hidden in the ground. The roots are small, numerous, mochkovatye.

Aboveground shoots are shortened. The lower leaves are followed by two (rarely three) large, completely whole wide-lanceolate (or oblong-elliptical) pointed basal leaves, between which there is a large bud at the top of the rhizome. From the corner of the lower leaf, embracing both greens from below, a flower-bearing stem protrudes, bearing a brush of 6-20 flowers, facing mainly in one direction. The flowering stem is leafless or bears leaves only under the inflorescence; rarely — with filamentous leaves. Fragrant flowers droop gracefully. Flowering time is from May to June.

Long curved pedicels — with filmy bracts. The flowers have a simple compound-leaved rounded-bell-shaped perianth 4-9 mm long and 3-7 mm wide, white (rarely pale pink) in color, with six bent lobes.

The fruit is an orange-red spherical berry 6-8 mm across, containing one or two almost spherical seeds. Berries persist on the plant for a long time. Fruiting in June — early July.
