A plant species of the genus Persicaria (Persicaria) of the Buckwheat family (Polygonaceae). An annual herbaceous plant up to 1 m tall. The root is taproot, weakly branched. The stem is erect, single, branched, knobby.
The leaves are 3-10 cm long, alternate, lanceolate, wedge-shaped-narrowed to the base, whole-edged, short-stemmed, almost sessile, glabrous, often with a reddish spot on top, with pubescent sockets bearing cilia along the edge.
The flowers are small, pink or white, in thick cylindrical spike-shaped racemes 2-3 cm long at the top of the stem. There are six stamens, one pistil with an upper, single-nest ovary and two or three columns. Blooms in June - August. The fruit is a shiny black, ovate or triangular nut, covered with a membranous perianth.
Honey bees can take nectar from the flowers of the mountaineer pochechuiny from August to autumn frosts.
