A species of perennial herbaceous plants of the genus Nettle (Urtica) of the Nettle family (Urticaceae). Hemp nettle is a herbaceous plant with a thick creeping rhizome.
The stem is erect, tetrahedral, ribbed, unbranched, reaches a height of 150 cm (under favorable conditions it can reach up to 2.4 meters in height).
The leaves are large, up to 15 cm long, deeply palmate-3-5- separate, with pinnate lobes, serrated, on petioles. Stipules are free, oblong-linear.
Inflorescences are branched, long, densely flowered. The plant is monoecious or dioecious, the flowers are unisexual, in the axils of the leaves. The fruit is a nut, 2-2.5 mm long. Blooms in June-August. It bears fruit in August.
Nettle is widely used for feeding different types of animals in the form of green fodder, vitamin flour, silage mixed with carbohydrate-containing plants.
