White medicinal soapwort (Saponaria officinalis).

A perennial 30-100 cm tall, with a strongly branched reddish-brown horizontal rhizome. The stems are numerous, erect, knobby, glabrous or rough with short hairs.

The leaves are opposite, oblong or oval, pointed, 5-12 cm long and 1-4 cm wide, with three longitudinal veins, glabrous, the upper ones are sessile, the lower ones with short petioles.

Flowers up to 5 cm in diameter, fragrant, collected in a multi-flowered corymbose-paniculate inflorescence. Pedicels are shortened, bracts linear-lanceolate. Blooms from June to September.

The fruit is an oblong-ovate single-nest capsule, opening at the top with four outward-bending denticles. The seeds are small (about 1.8 mm in diameter), numerous, spherical-kidney-shaped, black, warty. The seeds ripen in September.
