A perennial plant from the Aster family, or Compound flowers (Asteraceae). The plant is 90-100 cm tall . Stems are straight, rough.
The basal leaves on long, winged petioles, broadly oval, serrated, sharply narrowed to the petiole, are collected in a rosette; the stem leaves are sessile, lanceolate, rough, arranged in a regular order.
Inflorescences are baskets, large, up to 15 cm in diameter. The lingual flowers are purple-pink, pointed at the tip, up to 4 cm long; tubular - reddish-brown.
Blooms from July to September for about 60 days. It is cultivated as an ornamental and medicinal plant.
