Pitsunda pine (lat. Pinus brutia var. pityusa).

A large tree of the genus Pine (Pinus) of the Pine family (Pinaceae). The trunk is straight, 18-24 m high. The bark is brown-gray, fissured. The branches are brown-red or brown-yellow. The crown in youth is broadly conical, in old age it is spreading, relatively rounded, and not dense.

The leaves are thin, sharp, rough along the edges, dark green, about 12 cm long, 0.75-1 mm wide.

Male inflorescences are collected in capitate bunches, the scales are round, notched-toothed, reddish-yellow. Cones are single or 2-3, rarely 4, mature on short stalks or sessile, horizontally deflected, ovate-conical, 6-10 cm long, 3.5-5 cm in diameter, brownish-reddish.

Gives a lot of resin and turpentine. It is grown as a garden plant.

Undemanding to soil conditions and moisture, drought- and salt-resistant. Quite a fast growing breed. It is thermophilic, although there are specimens growing in temperate climates.

USDA Hardiness Zone: 5 (-29°C to -23°C).
