A species of trees of the genus Spruce (Picea) of the Pine family (Pinaceae). The tree is 30-50 m high, with a trunk diameter of 90 cm. The crown is dense, cone-shaped, often asymmetrical, with slightly drooping branches.

The bark is cracked, scaly, reddish-brown, thin. Young shoots are yellowish-brown, with rusty pubescence.

The kidneys are cone-shaped. Needles 15-20 (up to 25) mm long, 1.5—2 mm wide, tetrahedral, sharp, with two to four stomatal lines on each side, bluish-green to bluish, older greener.

Cones are ovoid-cylindrical, 4-7 cm long, 2.5 cm in diameter, maroon before maturation, mature - light brown, with thin, flexible, loosely located along the edge, toothed scales. Ripen in August-September, fall off in the spring of the following year.

Cultivated as an ornamental, it lives up to 300-600 years. In nature, spruce grows in mixed forests, neighbors not only with other coniferous plants, but also gets along with deciduous trees.
