Western red cedar, Pacific redcedar, Lobb thuja, Giant arborvitae, Shinglewood, Evergreen coniferous tree (lat. Thuja plicata).

A species of gymnosperms of the genus Thuja (Thuja) of the Cypress family (Cupressaceae). A tree with a height of 45-60 m and a trunk diameter of 120-240 cm, with a pyramidal or conical crown, horizontal branches and somewhat drooping, flat shoots.

The bark is cracked, fibrous, reddish-brown, 1-2.5 cm thick. The leaves on the upper side of the shoots are glossy green, on the lower side with whitish stripes. The lateral leaves are navicular folded.

Cones are oblong-oval, 10-12 cm long, consist of 4-6 pairs of scales, of which 2-3 pairs carry 3 seeds. The seeds are flat, with two wings.

It is rather low-demand for soils, but it develops best on moist, fertile, powerful, well-drained soils. It occurs in low-lying, swampy places, riverbanks, near the sea, where it reaches its largest size. In the mountains it grows on shady slopes. At the border of the distribution, it turns into a shrubby form. Shade-tolerant and wind-resistant.

It is good for the formation of dense groups, alleys. It is recommended for garden and park construction. The plant's lifespan is 500-800 years.
