Common dolichos, or Dolichos lablab, Lobia, or hyacinth beans, or Egyptian beans (Latin Lablab purpureus, Dolichos lablab).
Herbaceous climbing plant. The stem reaches a length of 3-5 m and produces 15-20 lateral shoots. The leaves are formed by three leaflets. Large flowers of white, reddish or purple flowers are collected in racemes.
The fruits are beans, flattened, curved, with beak-shaped pointed tips, in which from two to four seeds are formed. The fruits of dolichos - "black beans" - are eaten.
The seeds are large, spherical, ovoid or flattened, with a ridge, white or brown, black in color.
Cultivated as an annual ornamental plant. In areas with moderate frosts or warm winters it can be grown as a perennial plant.
