A deciduous shrub or small tree, usually 2 to 4 m high. The bark is dark, showy, strikingly smooth, with a slight sheen.
The leaves are small, light green in color.
The flowers are white, up to 5 cm in diameter.
The fruits are round in shape, 5-8 mm in diameter.
Prefers full or partial sun conditions, coming from habitats with varying light levels. It is not picky about soil, grows well in slightly acidic and slightly alkaline soils with a suitable pH range of 6-7.5.
