Cucumis anguria fresh seeds, Maroon cucumber, West Indian gherkin, Burr gherkin, West Indian gourd, Vine scrambling, Organic seeds (lat. Cucumis anguria).

A plant of the Pumpkin family (Cucurbitaceae), a species of the Cucumber genus (Cucumis). An annual liana-like plant, with long (3-4 m) creeping pubescent stems with numerous antennae, figuratively carved leaves, yellow flowers.

The fruits are cylindrical, small, 8 cm long, 4 cm in diameter, weighing 30-50 g. They can be covered with soft fleshy thorns, but there are also smooth ones with light pubescence. They taste like an ordinary cucumber.

By the time of the onset of seed ripeness, the fruits of anguria acquire a yellow-orange or red color, biological ripeness occurs approximately 70 days after the emergence of seedlings.

Young anguria fruits are eaten raw or pickled, salted. At a later age, the fruits of anguria, as a rule, are inedible, and those that remain suitable for human consumption acquire a sweet taste.

Anguria is cultivated both as a vegetable and as an ornamental crop. Most often, anguria is used as an ornamental plant, making beautiful trellises on well-lit walls, as well as on balconies and in bright rooms.

Decorativeness is provided by abundant flowering and fruits hanging on long stalks. The care is about the same as for ordinary cucumbers.
