Decaisnea fargesii (lat. Decaisnea fargesii).

Deciduous upright shrub up to 5 m high with rather thick, weakly branched stems and bare branches.

The leaves are odd-pinnate, the leaflets are oblong-ovate, long-pointed, light green, golden-yellow in autumn.

The inflorescences are paniculate, hanging, up to 20 cm long, at the ends of the lateral branches. The flowers are hanging, bell-shaped, 2.5 cm long, greenish. Flowering in June.

The pods are up to 10 cm long and 3 cm in diameter. Inside the pod there is a transparent, sticky, jelly-like pulp. The fruits are edible, sweetish in taste, and tender. The gelatinous contents of the pod taste like watermelon, are distinguished by delicate sweetness and a very pleasant aroma. Fruiting in September-October.

Application: singly and in groups in gardens and parks.

Undemanding to soils, optimally fertile, moist, permeable, damaged by late frosts.
