Mauritanian jujube, Ziziphus mauritiana

An evergreen or deciduous shrub or tree up to 10 m high with a spreading crown.

The leaves are round to ovate, up to 6 cm long, entire or slightly serrated.

The flowers are small, greenish-white or yellowish, collected in bunches of 6-20 pieces in the leaf axils.

The fruits are drupes, about 2.5 cm in diameter. The peel is strong, shiny, ripe fruits are golden to brown in color, often with brown spots. As the fruit ripens, the pulp changes in consistency from hard to mushy, sweet, with a fruity smell. The stone is up to 1.5 cm in size, woody, grooved, contains 1-2 nucleoli.

They are eaten fresh, candied, and pickled.

Not picky about soil. You need to choose a well-lit area that is protected from wind and drafts.
