A species of trees of the genus Prunus (Prunus) of the Rose family (Rosaceae). Tree up to 5-6 meters tall. The crown is ovoid. The bark is brownish or brownish-gray, smooth. The shoots are yellowish-gray, glabrous.

The leaves are elliptical, ovate or obovate, up to 13 cm long, up to 5 cm wide with a suddenly long apex, rounded, heart-shaped or wedge-shaped base.

Flowers 2-4 in racemes up to 5 cm long. The corolla is white or pink, 2.5–3 cm in diameter. Flowering in April-May.

The fruit is a rounded-ellipsoidal drupe, slightly pointed at the apex, about 8 mm long, 5-7 mm wide. At first purple-black, later black. Inedible. The stone is ovoid, 6×4 mm.

A decorative blooming species, considered one of the types of sakura.

Prefers moist, well-drained soil, but is otherwise undemanding to soil conditions. It is better to choose a place for planting that is sunny or in partial shade.
