Decorative, compact light-loving plant of medium size. Height up to 20 m, crown diameter up to 10 m.
The bark is smooth and gray-brown on young trees. The buds are pale brown, which helps distinguish the plant from the closely related common ash, which has blackish buds. The leaves are imparipinnate, consisting of 3-13 lanceolate, serrate leaflets. The species is close to acute ash, from which it differs in larger lionfish and racemose inflorescences.
It blooms with yellow-green flowers in April - May. The fruits are lionfish and ripen in August.
Used to create landscape compositions.
Prefers full sun and can grow in lightly shaded environments. Prefers well-drained soil, but can also tolerate drought and standing water.
