An evergreen, spreading tree up to 30 m high. The bark is corrugated, with cracks.

The leaves are leathery, elongated, 10 -16 cm long, dark green in color, curved.

Creamy yellow, very fragrant flowers are collected in inflorescences up to 8 cm long. Flowering from March to September.

The fruits are flat beans. As they mature, they unevenly curl into bizarre spirals. Ripen by the end of September.

Use as an ornamental plant.

Prefers fertile soil with a neutral reaction, a sunny location protected from the wind.
