The leaves are leathery, elliptical in shape, bright green, about 15 cm long, with serrated edges.
The inflorescences consist of 3-5 crimson-red buds, about 15 cm long. The flowers are funnel-shaped with long, curved petals.
The fruits are hard, oblong, up to 60 cm long, up to 15 cm in diameter, weighing up to 3-5 kg, pink or light brown in color. The pulp of the fruit is fibrous and fleshy, and contains many poisonous seeds.
Widely used in cosmetology. In Japan, they are valued for their trunk, which allows them to create uniquely decorative bonsai.
It is not a cold-resistant plant. Prefers loose, nutritious soil.
