Tree 5-20 m high with a spreading crown.

The leaves are alternate, doubly pinnate.

The flowers are white or slightly yellowish, about 1.5 cm in diameter. Collected in spike-shaped inflorescences.

Widely used in urban plantings. Can be grown in bonsai style.

Prefers moist soils with a high clay content. Sensitive to frost. Light-loving plant.
