An evergreen monoecious tree, a species of the genus Fir of the Pine family (Pinaceae). Single-color fir is a powerful (trunk diameter up to 1.9 meters), tall (up to 60 meters) tree with a wide conical crown, dense in youth and relatively sparse and drooping in old age; sharp spire-shaped top (in old trees it becomes flatter).

The bark is gray, smooth, hard; thickness at the base of the tree in mature trees is 10-15 cm, can reach 18 cm, with deep longitudinal grooves, resistant to fire. The skeletal branches are located at right angles to the trunk and are prone to sagging with age. The branching branches are small, smooth, with yellowish pubescence, usually directed upward. The buds are yellow-green, blunt and resinous, about 6 cm long.

The needles are flat, green or bluish-green, with grayish-white lines on both sides, often sickle-shaped, rounded or bluntly pointed at the apex, with a slightly widened base, asymmetrically located. They have a pungent odor reminiscent of camphor.

The cones are large, sessile, oval-cylindrical, 7-12 cm long, 3-4.5 cm wide; at the beginning of ripening they are olive green, then become yellow-brown and dark brown.

Due to its winter hardiness, relative unpretentiousness and resistance to urban conditions, the tree can not only be successfully introduced over a large part of Russia, but also widely used for landscaping and landscape construction.

Grows well in fresh deep sandy loam and loam, but can grow in other types of soil, preferring a slightly acidic environment; required pH range: 5.5-7.8. Sensitive to soil salinity.

USDA Hardiness Zone: 4 (-34°C to -29°C).
