The fruits of the bottle pumpkin initially have the appearance of an elongated cylinder, and in the process of ripening they acquire a pear-shaped shape. A vine with fruits adorns the suburban area, giving it a unique and exotic appearance.
Unusually decorative are the large flowers of the plant, which have a goblet shape. The newly opened glasses are cream-colored, by the evening the flowers become snow-white. They fade very quickly, but soon they are replaced by new buds. During the day, the flowers are closed, so in order to get a lot of bottle pumpkins, the lagenaria are pollinated artificially at night. Flowering continues until mid-autumn.
During the ripening process, the pulp of the fruit dries out, and the peel becomes firmer. Young fruits (up to 6-10 cm long).
It can be used for food, cooking soups, vegetable stews, casseroles, porridges from them. The taste of an unripe vegetable resembles a zucchini, so the same culinary recipes apply to a pumpkin bottle.
